CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Hurricane Isaias was expected to make landfall along Florida’s northwest Gulf Coast late Friday or early Saturday, then track north and bring a wet, windy weekend to the Charlotte region, according to the forecast issued Thursday, Oct. 8. A First Alert was in effect for Saturday, Oct. 10, when widespread rain and wind gusts of up to 40 mph were possible around Charlotte. Forecasters said isolated tornadoes could not be ruled out. Highs were expected to reach the 60s and 70s. Rain and storms were also likely Sunday, with total rainfall reaching as much as 3 inches by the end of the weekend. Friday was expected to be mostly dry, with increasing clouds and highs in the upper 70s. Isaias strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane on Oct. 8. The forecast called for a few lingering showers Monday, followed by partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 70s. Tuesday and Wednesday were expected to be mostly sunny, with highs in the 80s. The weekend forecast raised the possibility of hazardous travel and localized flooding from heavy rain, alongside the risk of damaging gusts and isolated tornadoes. Forecast details were based on conditions and projections available Thursday and could change as the storm moved inland.
