Garinger High teacher suspended after arrest on student-contact charges

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools teacher was arrested Tuesday after police accused him of inappropriate physical contact with a juvenile student at a school event two days earlier, according to Charlotte police and court records.

Quinto Owens, 36, faces two counts of felony indecent liberties with a student by a school administrator, records show. Police said the alleged contact happened Sunday, Oct. 25. The department’s sexual assault unit investigated and obtained warrants for Owens’ arrest.

The school district identified Owens as a teacher at Garinger High School and said he was suspended with pay. The district did not specify his role at the school beyond identifying him as a teacher.

In a message to Garinger families, Principal Shannon Clemons said school administrators were working with district leaders, CMS police and Charlotte police. She said the school could not provide further details and that student and staff safety remained a priority.

The charges are allegations; the publicly available information provided did not detail the alleged contact or identify the student. The case is under investigation.
