Five taken to hospital after car strikes CMPD vehicle on northbound I-85
A crash near Sugar Creek Road early Saturday sent five people, including a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer, to the hospital. Two people had life-threatening injuries, while the officer’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, authorities said.
Five people were taken to the hospital after a car struck a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police vehicle on northbound Interstate 85 near Sugar Creek Road early Saturday, Oct. 10, authorities said.
The collision happened around 4 a.m. in north Charlotte, near the University area. The officer was assisting the North Carolina State Highway Patrol with traffic when the car hit the officer’s vehicle, police said.
Medics reported that two of the five people taken to the hospital had life-threatening injuries. The officer’s injuries were not life-threatening, according to police.
Authorities had not identified those involved or said what caused the collision. Northbound I-85 reopened shortly after the crash.
