Amy Burkett has left PBS Charlotte to focus on her leadership consulting business after 13 years as the station’s general manager. Central Piedmont Community College vice president Catherine Butler is leading the station on an interim basis while the college considers its next steps.
PBS Charlotte general manager Amy Burkett has departed after 13 years at the station, which is operated by Central Piedmont Community College.
Burkett said she is leaving to focus on her leadership consulting business, Amy Burkett Consulting Next Level Leadership. She described leading the station as an honor and said she valued working with the Charlotte community.
During her tenure, Burkett helped lead a financial turnaround, expand local programming and build the station’s community donor base. PBS Charlotte also added shows and documentaries, expanded educational initiatives and strengthened its digital presence. The station won multiple Emmy Awards during her leadership.
Burkett also hosted “Carolina Impact,” the station’s weekly newsmagazine.
Central Piedmont thanked Burkett for her service to the college, PBS Charlotte/WTVI and the community. Catherine Butler, the college’s vice president for communications, advancement and external affairs, is overseeing the station on an interim basis while the college determines its leadership plans.
The change leaves the public television station seeking a permanent leader as it continues its local programming and education work.
