Quincy housing nonprofit reaches deal for former Eastern Nazarene campus

A Quincy housing nonprofit has reached an agreement to purchase the former Eastern Nazarene College campus, a potential step toward converting the shuttered property into housing after months of debate over its future.

The college’s transition board announced the agreement Oct. 17. The deal covers the 27-acre main campus and 14 neighboring residential properties and would transfer them to the Quincy Housing Authority and Development Corporation.

The sale is pending final approval from the Massachusetts attorney general’s office, the board said. No purchase price, development timeline or details about the number or type of housing units were provided in the announcement.

The proposed purchase puts a local housing organization in line to take control of a large former college site in Quincy. The campus has been closed, and its future has been the subject of months of debate.
