Chapter 7 filing disrupts Boston couples’ wedding plans and leaves photographers unpaid
A Boston wedding photography and videography company’s move toward Chapter 7 bankruptcy has left couples scrambling to replace booked photographers and contractors seeking overdue payments. Picture This Wedding connected couples with photographers and videographers. Customers say they had paid for services in advance before receiving an email that the company would not fulfill its bookings. Heather Johnson said she received the notice on Oct. 7, two days before her wedding. She had to find a replacement photographer on short notice and said the new arrangement cost $7,000 — about twice what she had planned to spend. Sophia Bernitz, of Jamaica Plain, and her partner, Nathan Savant, had several weeks to make other plans. They described the disruption as added stress, and Bernitz said some couples are also waiting for photos from weddings already covered by company photographers. The company’s contractors say they have faced payment delays or have not been paid. Luke Canniff, owner of RedShade Studios, said he and others went unpaid for weddings during the previous busy season; he said payments for his work began arriving about eight months later. Photographer Amanda Lowe said the company still owes her more than $8,000. Lowe is helping Bernitz and Savant arrange replacement coverage. The company’s owner and attorney had not responded to requests for comment, according to reporting published Oct. 14.
