Brighton apartment fire sends two to hospital; residents and pets evacuate

Two people were taken to a hospital after a fire broke out early Oct. 24 in Boston’s Brighton neighborhood, where firefighters rescued six people and helped residents get out of a smoke-filled building.

Fire crews were called around 3:45 a.m. to an address in the 100 block of Brainerd Road and found heavy flames showing from the building. Additional firefighting resources were brought in as crews worked to evacuate residents.

One person sheltered on the rooftop because of heavy smoke, while about 20 people and their pets got out without firefighters’ assistance. The conditions of the two people hospitalized were not immediately known.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
