Attleboro couple found dead after home health aide requests welfare check
A man and woman were found dead Wednesday inside their Andover Avenue home, where investigators also found evidence of a significant fire. Police said they do not suspect foul play; the deaths remain under investigation.
A home health aide’s request for a welfare check led police to find a man and woman dead inside an Andover Avenue home in Attleboro on Wednesday, Oct. 14. A cat was also found dead in the house, where police reported evidence of a significant fire.
The aide called for help Wednesday morning after being unable to reach the people she cared for. Officers forced their way into the home and discovered the bodies, according to police. Local and state police, firefighters and investigators spent hours at the scene.
Authorities have not said when the fire occurred or when the two people died. The victims’ identities had not been released as of Wednesday night. Police said they do not suspect foul play and are investigating the deaths as unattended. The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and fire services are assisting.
A neighbor, Keith Wyman, said the couple were in their 70s and had lived in the home for decades. He said he last saw the woman the previous week and had not noticed smoke or signs of a fire.
Wyman described the couple as caring neighbors who regularly checked on others and brought things over for children in the neighborhood. Their deaths, he said, were a shock and a loss for the community.
