Two people were killed and three others wounded in a shooting at a gas station in southwest Baltimore on Sunday night, police said. Gunfire broke out around 10:25 p.m. in the 2800 block of Edmondson Avenue.

Officers found four victims at the scene: a 20-year-old man, a 24-year-old man, a 34-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man. A fifth victim drove to a hospital, Police Commissioner Richard Worley said. The woman and the 20-year-old man died of their injuries. The other three victims were not in life-threatening condition, according to authorities.

Worley said two or possibly three people took part in the shooting. At least one high-powered automatic rifle was used, he said. Police had not announced arrests in connection with the shooting.

“There are a lot of high-powered weapons out there,” Worley said, noting that officers recover firearms regularly. He said officers made about eight handgun arrests over the weekend and recovered three automatic rifles and two handguns during one arrest.

Sunday’s shooting was the fifth mass shooting to shake Baltimore in roughly five weeks, according to the account of recent incidents provided by police and authorities. Seven people were shot near the Douglass Homes community on Sept. 16, including a 3-year-old boy; all survived. On Oct. 3, 12-year-old Khloe Ishway was killed and three others were injured during a youth football game at Leon Day Park. Police arrested Tyree Reynolds, 23, in connection with that shooting.

Four people were shot near Ellicott Driveway and Oakhurst Place on Oct. 9; Donte Gregory, 18, and Wesley Harris, 19, died. On Oct. 15, two men were killed and three others—including boys ages 14 and 15—were wounded in a shooting on East Lombard Street.

Worley said investigators would continue looking for suspects and working to solve the shootings. “Hopefully, we can try to prevent the next one,” he said.
