Two killed, three wounded in East Lombard Street shooting as Baltimore residents seek answers
Two men were killed and three people injured in a shooting in southeast Baltimore early Thursday, including a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old. The violence was reported as the city’s fourth mass shooting in a month, prompting renewed concern among neighbors and business owners.
Two men were killed and three others wounded in a shooting shortly after midnight Thursday in the 3500 block of East Lombard Street, Baltimore police said. The injured included a 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy who was reported in critical condition.
The shooting, in southeast Baltimore, was described as the city’s fourth mass shooting in the past month. Police had not released further information about the surviving victims’ conditions or the investigation as of Thursday, Oct. 15.
Residents and local business owners said the gunfire has heightened fears and left them looking for ways to protect their families and neighbors. Arch McKown, a parent of two teenage boys, said the presence of young victims raises difficult questions about why young people are being targeted.
Greg Mayen, owner of Tikal Comida Cafe, said he plans to install cameras to help monitor the area. Another resident, Matt Robeson, said people want change and expressed frustration over what he sees as a lack of consequences for repeat offenders.
Mayor Brandon Scott said he has confidence in Baltimore Police homicide detectives and that they would pursue justice for the families. The shooting adds to a month of violence that has left southeast Baltimore residents coping with deaths, injuries and damage to nearby businesses.
