Teen injured in Belle Avenue stabbing told police she fled basement, authorities say

A 15-year-old girl was found with a stab wound in Northwest Baltimore Thursday night after telling police she had escaped from a basement in the area, authorities said.

Officers responded around 9:30 p.m. Oct. 22 to the 3800 block of Belle Avenue, where they found the girl receiving medical care, Baltimore police said. She told officers an unknown man had stabbed her, according to police.

The girl remained sedated and was expected to survive, police said. Authorities have not publicly identified a suspect or said where the basement she described is located. The circumstances leading up to the stabbing remain unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.

Residents said officers searched nearby homes as they looked for a suspect. Mehmet Guclu, who lives on Belle Avenue, said officers asked to search his house, including the basement and upstairs rooms.

“I was shocked because it never happened around this area,” Guclu said, describing the incident as unlike anything he had experienced in the neighborhood.

Shelley, a resident of the block for 37 years, said the violence was unexpected. Veronica Davis, who has lived in the neighborhood for more than two decades, also said she had not encountered anything like it there.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact detectives at 410-396-2466.
