Dundalk, Golden Ring plazas report nine overnight commercial crimes

A string of overnight commercial crimes left shattered storefronts at two Baltimore County shopping plazas, with at least six incidents reported at Dundalk Plaza and three at Golden Ring Plaza, according to people familiar with the investigations.

The incidents happened overnight Thursday, Oct. 15, into Friday, Oct. 16. At Dundalk Plaza on Merritt Boulevard, businesses targeted included America’s Best Wings, Tropical Smoothie and Papa Johns. Glass doors were broken at several storefronts.

Papa Johns reopened Friday despite damage to its front entrance. A shift manager, identified only as Kristina, said the store’s cash register had been broken but contained no money. She said glass fragments remained around the doorway when staff arrived.

Repair crews spent much of Friday replacing damaged glass. Mike Newell, whose company, Mike’s Emergency Glass, was handling several plaza repairs, said the jobs represented thousands of dollars in damage. He noted that the cost extends beyond the glass itself, whose price has been rising.

At the nearby Tobacco Barrel Smoke Shop, neighboring businesses had broken front doors, but security gates helped protect the store, said employee Tyesha Roberts. She said businesses needed more security.

Baltimore County police acknowledged receiving a request for information but had not provided further details by Friday. The investigation includes the possibility of reviewing surveillance video; an employee at one business said footage had been given to detectives.

The incidents were described as part of a broader wave of similar crimes over the preceding several days. No arrests or suspected motive were reported.
