Travis County says 32,000 DPS voter records are ready for November election
Travis County has updated its voter registration database with 32,000 records recently sent by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the county’s voter registrar said Friday, Oct. 9. The county says the voters will be eligible to participate in the Nov. 3 general election. Celia Israel, the county tax assessor-collector and voter registrar, said the DPS data arrived shortly before the voter registration deadline. County employees worked nights and weekends to enter the records into the Texas Elections Administration Management database, she said. Israel said the county had been caught off guard by the timing of the state data transfer. She described the staff’s work as time-sensitive and essential to democracy. The DPS records are processed, but the registration workload is not finished. Travis County is still reviewing about 20,000 paper applications and expects to receive additional forms mailed by the deadline. Staff will continue processing applications over the coming week as they prepare for early voting, which starts Oct. 19.
