Travis County keeps voter registration sites open until midnight Monday
County offices and a drive-up registration event offered residents a final chance to register or update their information before the Oct. 5 deadline. Officials said applications mailed by the deadline must be postmarked that day.
Travis County extended voter-registration access through midnight Monday, Oct. 5, as the deadline approached for residents seeking to register or update their information before the upcoming election.
Residents could register at several locations, including the Travis County Tax Office on Ridgepoint Drive and the County Clerk’s Office on Airport Boulevard. A registration drive on South Lamar Boulevard offered a drive-up option, where residents could fill out forms and leave within minutes.
Glen Maxey, a deputy with the Travis County Voter Registration Office, said last-minute arrivals are common. The county kept sites open late to accommodate them, he said.
Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar Celia Israel urged residents not to miss the chance to take part in what she called a consequential election. Staff could help people complete registration paperwork, including those arriving late in the evening, she said.
Israel also addressed voters whose registration status is listed as “suspense,” a designation that can arise when officials have questions about an address. Voters whose address is correct can resolve the status by completing a form when they vote, she said. Those who have moved should update their information.
Residents who could not get to a registration site could mail an application, provided it was postmarked by the deadline. Israel advised people who were able to do so to submit their forms in person.
The deadline is an important step toward making sure eligible residents can participate in the election. County officials encouraged anyone who still needed to register or correct their information to act before midnight Monday.
