Two women found shot dead in a Wells Branch apartment earlier this week were victims of a double homicide, Travis County investigators said Friday, announcing the arrest of a 24-year-old man in the case. Michael Robinson, who is from Vicksburg, Mississippi, was taken into custody Friday and charged with capital murder, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office said. The charge is an allegation; court records and details about an attorney representing Robinson were not included in the sheriff’s announcement. The investigation began Wednesday morning at an apartment complex in the 3400 block of Shoreline Drive. A property manager was serving a written order when he found an apartment door ajar. After announcing himself and receiving no response, he opened the door, found a body and called 911 at about 8:45 a.m., authorities said. Deputies found two women with gunshot wounds. They were identified as Austin residents Anecia Kay Thacker, 37, and Lamonica Webb, 32. Investigators initially considered the possibility of a murder-suicide, but did not rule out other explanations. After obtaining a search warrant, crime scene specialists examined the apartment and found evidence that contradicted that theory, the sheriff’s office said. Ballistics and autopsy results led detectives to classify the deaths as a double homicide. Detectives identified Robinson as a person of interest and believe he was at the apartment during the shooting. Investigators said they located him by identifying his vehicle and residence, then gathered additional evidence that they say connected him to the killings. Sheriff Sally Hernandez praised the work of crime scene specialists and detectives in the department’s announcement.
