A man was killed in an early-morning shooting Wednesday at a home near the 1000 block of Springdale Road in east Austin, according to Austin police. Police received a report of shots fired inside the home shortly after 3 a.m. Officers found the victim at the scene, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities had not released his identity as of Wednesday morning. Austin police Officer Aaron Townsend said during a briefing before 5 a.m. that the victim and suspect knew each other. The suspect had left before officers arrived, and police had not determined whether either person lived at the home. The suspect remained at large, but police said they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public. Investigators were interviewing witnesses as they worked to establish what led to the shooting. Police are investigating the death as Austin’s 42nd homicide of 2026.
