A man died early Wednesday after Austin police found him with obvious trauma outside a home in south Austin, prompting a homicide investigation. Officers responded at about 3:50 a.m. to the 200 block of Virtus Bend, where they found the man outside the residence, according to the Austin Police Department. First aid was given, but he could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene. At a 6 a.m. briefing, police said the case is being handled as a homicide because a person had died. That classification could change as detectives gather more information, police said. The homeowners were cooperating with investigators and speaking with homicide detectives.
