LEANDER, Texas — Williamson County voters heading to the polls this November may leave with a small piece of local art designed by a student who is still too young to cast a ballot herself.

Brinda Morisetty, a 17-year-old senior at Rouse High School, took first place in the high school division of the Williamson County Elections Department’s “I Voted” sticker contest. Her winning design is being handed out at polling locations across the county while supplies last.

Morisetty created the design in her bedroom and included a red poppy associated with Georgetown, a bluebonnet representing Texas and rivers she said symbolize connections among families. She aimed to make the sticker feel rooted in Williamson County, with each image chosen for a reason.

The county organized two contests to involve students in the election process: an elementary-school “Future Voter” competition and an “I Voted” design contest for middle and high school students. Judges selected the winners, who were announced at the Commissioners Court meeting on Oct. 13.

Morisetty said watching voters leave polling places with her work has made the experience especially meaningful. She sees civic participation as broader than voting, and said students can contribute through skills and interests before they turn 18. She is looking forward to voting for the first time and receiving a sticker herself.

Texas early voting runs through Friday, Oct. 30, and Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
