Del Valle schools face leadership change as Gutierrez takes Houston-area role
Del Valle ISD Superintendent Matthew Gutierrez will leave the district Nov. 6, two years after taking the job, to pursue an education position in Houston. The district says details of its search for a successor will come after transition plans are finalized.
Del Valle ISD Superintendent Matthew Gutierrez is leaving the district for an education job in Houston, with his last day set for Nov. 6, the district said Oct. 15.
Gutierrez began leading the district about two years ago. During his tenure, Del Valle ISD said it secured additional funding for after-school care and introduced new curriculum to support classroom instruction.
“Over the past two years, Dr. Gutierrez has worked alongside our employees, families and community to move important priorities forward and create new opportunities for our students,” school board President Elvia Guadian said. She said the work reflected a shared effort to strengthen the district and serve students.
The district has not yet announced how it will select its next superintendent. Del Valle ISD said it would provide more information about the leadership transition once plans are finalized.
