Human remains have been found near the area where Jason Landry’s car crashed and was abandoned nearly six years ago, potentially opening a new chapter in one of Central Texas’ most closely watched missing-person cases. The remains were discovered near the search area outside Luling in Caldwell County, according to people familiar with the investigation. Their identity has not been released, and authorities have not said whether they are Landry’s. The Texas attorney general’s Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit and Caldwell County officials had been contacted for information about the discovery. No additional details about when the remains were found, how they were located or whether they have been positively identified were immediately available. Landry was 21 and attending Texas State University when he disappeared in December 2020 while traveling from San Marcos toward his family’s home in Missouri City. Investigators used cellphone data to track his movements through Martindale, Fentress, Prairie Lea and Stairtown before his digital trail ended after he reached Luling. His vehicle was later found off Salt Flat Road near Luling. The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office previously said the car was abandoned and that several personal items—including clothing, Landry’s cellphone, wallet and backpack—were missing. Authorities and volunteers have conducted multiple searches in the region over the years, but none had produced a major breakthrough. The discovery of remains near the crash site could provide investigators with new evidence, though any connection to Landry will depend on forensic testing and official identification. Families and search volunteers have continued pressing for answers in the case.
