EdgeConneX park plan draws traffic and transparency concerns in Thousand Oaks
CEDAR CREEK, Texas — Residents of the Thousand Oaks community raised concerns at a public meeting Oct. 6 about a proposed park from data center company EdgeConneX, worrying that visitors could worsen traffic and speeding on nearby streets. The meeting was the first public session held by Bastrop County and EdgeConneX on the proposal. The company plans to donate about 25 acres to the county and says it would build and pay for a community park. Plans presented at the meeting showed a playground, a lake with fishing access, an outdoor classroom and restrooms. EdgeConneX also proposed paying for a new shortcut for emergency responders. Shirley Adams, who lives on Thousand Oaks Drive, said excavation and land clearing near her property began in February. She can see an EdgeConneX data center under construction from her home and said speeding is already a problem on the road. She questioned whether the park would serve local families, saying she did not know nearby residents with children who would use it. Other residents criticized what they described as a lack of transparency from the company and county. Some said they would prefer a new greenspace, while noting that trees have been removed to make way for EdgeConneX’s data centers. No final decision on the park proposal was included in the information presented at the meeting.
