A 43-year-old man held at the Travis County Jail died Wednesday morning after he was found unresponsive in his cell, according to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. Christopher Ramon was discovered shortly after 9 a.m. during a nurse’s routine round, the sheriff’s office said. The nurse began CPR, with corrections officers assisting until first responders arrived. Ramon was pronounced dead at 9:51 a.m. Ramon had been booked into the jail the previous day on a parole violation. The sheriff’s office has not released a cause of death or said whether foul play is suspected. The sheriff’s Internal Affairs Unit and Criminal Investigations Division are investigating alongside the Texas Rangers and the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office. An autopsy was conducted Sept. 17, but the final report had not been completed. Deaths in custody typically prompt outside and internal reviews to determine what happened and whether jail policies, medical care or other conditions played a role. Additional details are expected as investigators and the medical examiner complete their work.
