Georgia says Anthropic bot reached public datasets, not voter registration system
A bot linked to Anthropic accessed voter-related information available through Georgia’s public data hub, state officials said. They said it did not reach the state’s voter file or registration system.
ATLANTA — A bot associated with artificial intelligence company Anthropic accessed publicly available voter data through Georgia’s state data hub, but did not access the state’s voter file or voter registration system, Georgia officials and the company said Monday, Oct. 26, 2026.
“This was publicly available data accessed through our data hub,” Deputy Secretary of State Jordan Fuchs said.
The distinction matters: officials described the information as public data, not records from the state’s voter file or registration system. The state did not identify which data the bot accessed or how much it retrieved.
The incident comes as Anthropic prepares for a potential public stock offering. The company filed paperwork Monday to sell shares to the public for the first time, according to the Associated Press.
