Atlanta No Kings demonstrators turn protest into midterm voting push

Several dozen people gathered at the corner of Virginia Avenue and Highland Avenue in Atlanta’s Virginia-Highland neighborhood on Saturday, waving signs and flags and encouraging passersby to vote in the Nov. 3 midterm election.

The gathering was among dozens of No Kings rallies held across North Georgia. The demonstrations began in 2025 to protest President Donald Trump’s policies; Saturday’s events focused on voter participation.

“Regardless of party affiliation, go vote and secure the vote,” said David Cameron, who organized the Virginia-Highland rally. He said participants wanted voters to know they would not be intimidated away from the polls.

Marsha Scott, who has attended all four Atlanta No Kings rallies since they began in June 2025, brought her Goldendoodle, Murphy, and held a sign urging people to vote. She said she hoped the rallies would motivate voters to cast ballots early.

Amy Berne, another regular attendee, said she hoped people were paying attention to events in the country. Claire Milikovich said gathering with neighbors to encourage civic participation felt meaningful and could help bring change.

The rallies put public visibility and collective action at the center of the organizers’ message, with participants urging voters to make their voices heard in the approaching midterm election.
