Water safety alert ends in five south metro communities after testing
Atlanta officials lifted the boil-water advisory for South Fulton, Fairburn, Union City, Chattahoochee Hills and Palmetto on Wednesday. The Watershed Management Department said testing found no contamination in the public water system.
Residents in South Fulton, Fairburn, Union City, Chattahoochee Hills and Palmetto can stop boiling tap water after Atlanta officials lifted a multi-day advisory on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
The Atlanta Department of Watershed Management said water samples showed no contamination in the public system. The department said the water in affected areas meets or exceeds federal standards.
The advisory followed a water main break that crews were addressing Sunday. Officials kept the warning in place while required water sampling was completed. The alert had already been lifted in parts of Atlanta on Monday, Oct. 12, before the remaining affected communities were cleared.
Boil-water advisories are issued as a precaution when water quality may be at risk. Their removal allows residents in the listed communities to use tap water without boiling it first.
