Georgia ACA plans face premium increases of up to 29% in 2027

Rates for plans on Georgia’s Affordable Care Act marketplace will rise 11% to 29%, bringing the average monthly premium to nearly $932. The increases come as enhanced federal subsidies have expired and marketplace enrollment is declining.

Georgia ACA plans face premium increases of up to 29% in 2027

Georgians who buy health insurance through the state’s Affordable Care Act marketplace will face premium increases of 11% to 29% for 2027 plans, with the average monthly premium reaching nearly $932.

The Georgia Office of the Commissioner of Insurance finalized rates for the eight insurers participating in Georgia Access ahead of open enrollment, which begins Nov. 1. Actual prices vary by plan and location, among other factors. The insurance office did not respond to a request for comment.

The increase marks a second year of significant, double-digit hikes. The expiration of enhanced federal subsidies has left many consumers paying more for coverage, even as some Georgians continue to receive state assistance. Rising health care costs—including hospital and physician services and expensive medications—are also adding pressure to premiums.

Marketplace enrollment has been falling, a trend that could leave fewer people sharing insurers’ costs. State projections point to further declines, though the figures available do not specify how many Georgians will enroll in 2027.

The higher rates could make it harder for residents to keep coverage or afford care, while adding financial strain for hospitals that treat uninsured patients. Open enrollment through Georgia Access begins Nov. 1 and runs through Jan. 15.
