Snohomish County says misspelled ballot envelopes will not affect 2026 votes

Snohomish County voters who spot the misspelling “Genereal” on their 2026 general-election ballot return envelopes do not need to request replacements, the county auditor’s office says.

The typo appeared on about 535,000 envelopes during printing, according to local reports. The auditor’s office said the error will not interfere with ballot processing or signature verification, and ballots with the misspelled word remain valid.

Hundreds of thousands of ballots were mailed about a week earlier than usual to give voters more time to participate, the office said. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The county said the error has been corrected on the remaining ballots and that it is reviewing its procedures to reduce the risk of similar mistakes. In a statement, the auditor’s office said it takes its responsibility to provide accurate election materials seriously and thanked residents who raised the issue.

Voters can return their ballots as usual.
