Tacoma man arrested after fire destroys former Husky Desmond Trufant’s rental home
A fire Tuesday morning destroyed The Sunset Estate, a short-term rental owned by Tacoma native and former NFL cornerback Desmond Trufant. Police arrested a man Wednesday on suspicion of arson; authorities have not released further details.
A man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a fire that destroyed a Tacoma short-term rental owned by former University of Washington and NFL player Desmond Trufant, police said.
Tacoma firefighters were called to the 7500 block of North 10th Street at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. The home was reported to be a total loss. Fire crews alerted police because the blaze appeared suspicious, and investigators determined it was arson, Tacoma police spokesperson Shelbie Boyd said.
Officers arrested the man at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of South Howard Street. Boyd did not provide additional details about the suspected arson. Police have not publicly identified the man or specified any charges.
The property, known as The Sunset Estate, is a luxury short-term rental belonging to Trufant, a Tacoma native who played for the Huskies before the Atlanta Falcons selected him in the 2013 NFL draft.
