Police seek two suspects after Whatcom County test-drive assault and SUV theft

An 82-year-old man was assaulted and his vehicle was stolen during a test drive Thursday on Aldrich Road in Whatcom County, according to police. The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office is investigating with assistance from the Everson Police Department.

Investigators are looking for two suspects, described by police as a man and a woman, and a stolen 2001 Toyota Highlander. Police said the male suspect was last reported driving the Highlander away from the scene.

The female suspect was reportedly driving a dark blue or black 2002 to 2004 Honda CR-V. The vehicle may have a white stripe along its sides and a spare tire mounted on the rear, possibly with a cover, police said.

Everson police asked community members to look out for both vehicles and share information that could help identify the suspects. Authorities warned people not to take direct action if they see the vehicles or suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and reference case 26A36654. Police have not released further details about the victim’s condition or the circumstances of the assault.
