Newsom endorses three Lurie-backed San Francisco ballot measures
Gov. Gavin Newsom has endorsed Propositions D, E and F, adding high-profile support to a $13.5 million campaign backing Mayor Daniel Lurie’s City Hall proposals. The measures will go before San Francisco voters in November.
Gov. Gavin Newsom endorsed three San Francisco ballot measures backed by Mayor Daniel Lurie on Friday, Oct. 23, lending his support to Propositions D, E and F ahead of the November election.
The measures are intended to streamline City Hall, according to Lurie’s campaign. Their supporting campaign has $13.5 million, making it the best-funded local campaign on the November ballot, according to the information available Friday.
“San Francisco’s broken system has failed everyday San Franciscans for far too long,” Newsom said in a statement. He said the proposals would “cut through the bureaucracy, restore accountability, and stop dishonest ballot box games.”
Newsom served as San Francisco mayor from 2004 to 2011. Lurie said the governor’s experience leading the city gave him insight into barriers to making progress.
The endorsement adds a prominent political ally to the campaign, but voters will decide whether the proposed changes to city government become law. The measures are identified as Propositions D, E and F on the November ballot.
