Connie Chan urges San Francisco Democratic Party leader Nancy Tung to step down
San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan is calling for Democratic County Central Committee Chair Nancy Tung to resign, a day after Tung apologized for the party’s endorsement of Manny Yekutiel. Chan, an elected member of the 24-person committee, said Tung’s leadership had left the body having “lost all of its credibility.” She is the first elected committee member to publicly call for Tung’s ouster over the endorsement. Tung has chaired the committee since 2024. Removing her would require a majority vote, but the committee’s moderate bloc holds the largest number of seats. Tung has not indicated she plans to step down. In an interview Monday, before Chan’s call, Tung said she was unaware of efforts to remove her as chair. She did not immediately respond Tuesday morning to a request for comment on Chan’s demand. Chan is also running for the congressional seat held by Rep. Nancy Pelosi.
