San Jose-based eBay plans another 1,000 job cuts, eight months after prior layoffs
eBay says it will eliminate about 1,000 positions, or roughly 9% of its workforce, as it reorganizes operations and shifts resources toward growth areas. The cuts follow 800 job losses earlier this year and add to a series of reductions at the company since 2023.
San Jose-based eBay plans to eliminate about 1,000 jobs, the company confirmed Wednesday, Oct. 21, in another restructuring that would reduce its workforce by roughly 9%. Employees affected by the cuts are expected to be notified in the coming days, according to a memo from CEO Jamie Iannone.
The company says it is reorganizing operations and directing resources toward businesses it sees as having the strongest growth potential. Those include authenticated luxury goods, collectibles and refurbished products, as well as efforts to attract younger shoppers.
The planned reductions come about eight months after eBay cut roughly 800 jobs, or about 6% of its workforce. The company reported 12,300 employees at the end of 2025 in its annual filing.
The latest layoffs add to workforce reductions under Iannone, who became CEO in 2020. eBay cut about 500 jobs in 2023 and roughly 1,000 in 2024, in addition to the 800 positions eliminated earlier this year.
The company has also been reshaping its Bay Area footprint. In April, eBay announced it would close its San Francisco office at 300 Mission St. and move 198 employees to its San Jose headquarters.
Alongside the restructuring, eBay has been investing in artificial intelligence and other technology for its marketplace. It completed its acquisition of secondhand fashion platform Depop in July; eBay has said Depop will remain a distinct brand while drawing on the larger company’s resources.
The company is scheduled to report its third-quarter financial results Oct. 28.
