Hayward teen seeks witnesses after e-bike hit-and-run near BART
A 15-year-old was seriously injured when a driver struck him at Alice and B streets on Sept. 14 and drove away, police said. His family is asking nearby residents to check camera footage as he recovers.
A 15-year-old boy is appealing for help identifying the driver who struck him while he was riding an electric bike near Hayward BART last month.
The collision happened at about 7:20 p.m. Sept. 14 at the intersection of Alice and B streets. Police said the driver ran a stop sign, hit the teen and left without stopping.
The boy, Jefferson Pineda, suffered several broken bones as well as head and leg injuries. He is still recovering. Pineda and his family have been asking nearby residents whether home or business cameras captured the crash or the driver.
Pineda said the driver should come forward, describing the fear and anger of being left injured at the scene. He also said the collision has made him reluctant to ride again.
Hayward police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the department.
