Fatal Tenderloin pedestrian collision leads police to suspect on Treasure Island

A man died after a vehicle struck him in San Francisco’s Tenderloin early Sunday, and a woman was arrested later on Treasure Island on suspicion of vehicular homicide and hit-and-run, police said.

Officers responded at about 1:05 a.m. Oct. 25 to a pedestrian collision in the 800 block of Ellis Street. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died. The driver and vehicle had left before officers arrived, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

Investigators traced the vehicle to Treasure Island, where California Highway Patrol officers had stopped it for an unrelated traffic violation, police said. San Francisco officers then arrested the woman and booked her into the county jail. Authorities have not released the names of the suspect or the victim.

The death could mark San Francisco’s 23rd homicide of the year, according to the police department’s count cited in reporting on the case. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information can call the SFPD tip line at 415-575-4444 or text TIP411 with the message beginning “SFPD.” Police say tips may be anonymous.
