Family identifies 17-year-old killed in Potrero Hill shooting

Rolando Jose Dusuau, a 17-year-old from San Francisco’s Mission District, was killed in a shooting near the Potrero Hill Terrace and Annex housing complex on Oct. 16, his family said.

Dusuau’s mother, Christina Onopa, said she learned late Saturday that her eldest son—whom she called RJ—had been shot on the 1100 block of Wisconsin Street. He had left home about 13 minutes before the shooting, which was reported at about 8:38 p.m., according to Onopa’s account to Mission Local.

When Dusuau did not come home or respond to her calls and messages the next morning, Onopa filed a missing-person report. She said she could not think of a reason anyone would want to hurt him and that the family did not know who shot him or why.

Onopa described her son as smart, funny and driven. He loved basketball and video games and volunteered as a counselor at Horizons, a San Francisco nonprofit serving at-risk Latino youth and other young people of color. His father died by suicide three years ago, she said.

San Francisco police said homicide investigators arrested a juvenile suspect in connection with the killing after serving a search warrant on the 1800 block of 25th Street and seizing evidence. Police have not publicly identified the suspect. The case remains active.

The killing was San Francisco’s 22nd homicide of 2026 at the time, matching the count at the same point in 2025, according to the report. It was also the second homicide this year in or near the Potrero Hill Terrace and Annex; 44-year-old Cornelius Wigfall Jr. was fatally shot in February.

Anyone with information can call the San Francisco Police Department tip line at 415-575-4444 or text TIP411 with the message beginning “SFPD.” Police say tips can be anonymous.
