Elizabeth Beretta-Perik steps down as Rhode Island Democrats’ chair
Elizabeth Beretta-Perik resigned as chair of the Rhode Island Democratic Party on Oct. 20, after her husband was indicted on fraud and racketeering charges in Ohio. She announced the decision in an email to party officials.
Elizabeth Beretta-Perik resigned as chair of the Rhode Island Democratic Party on Tuesday, Oct. 20, following the indictment of her husband, Michael Perik, on fraud and racketeering charges in Ohio.
“I am resigning effective today as Chair of the Rhode Island Democratic Party,” Beretta-Perik wrote in an email to state committee members and party Secretary Arthur “Doc” Corvese. She ended the message with a brief thank-you.
An indictment is a formal accusation, not a finding of guilt. Beretta-Perik’s resignation removes her from the party’s top leadership role; the announcement did not identify a successor.
