West Warwick project will turn vacant Washington Street site into 30 supportive homes

WEST WARWICK, R.I. — Plans to convert a long-vacant property in West Warwick into supportive housing moved forward Monday with a groundbreaking ceremony at 183 Washington St., the former site of Ocean State Furniture.

The project, developed by the Women’s Development Corporation in collaboration with town leaders and community partners, will include 30 apartments in a mix of studio and one-bedroom units. Plans also call for space to provide supportive services and two commercial units.

Town Manager Mark Knott said community input helped shape the redevelopment. He praised the corporation’s work with residents and said the project would provide safe, stable housing for people experiencing homelessness while supporting investment in the surrounding neighborhood.

The development is in the Arctic Village area. Officials did not provide a construction schedule, project cost or details about the services planned for residents.
