ICE says Bryan Rafael Gomez deported after Rhode Island custody dispute
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says Bryan Rafael Gomez, sought in the Dominican Republic in a homicide case, was deported this week. He had been released in Rhode Island in April after a judge was not told about an international warrant, then taken back into custody in July.
Bryan Rafael Gomez was deported from the United States this week, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Boston office said Thursday, Oct. 22.
The Department of Homeland Security said Gomez was in the country unlawfully. Dominican Republic authorities were seeking him in connection with a homicide, according to ICE.
Gomez’s case drew scrutiny in Rhode Island after he was released from custody in April. Judge Melissa DuBose did not know about the international murder warrant when the release decision was made, according to the report. ICE had told the federal prosecutor in the case not to share the warrant information with DuBose. The prosecutor later apologized to the judge.
Gomez was taken back into custody in July. ICE did not provide further details about his deportation in its announcement.
