East Greenwich campus to add 45,000-square-foot trades training center
New England Institute of Technology has started work on a $40 million building sciences center it says will double its training capacity. The planned facility is expected to serve about 1,000 students a year in construction and related trades.
New England Institute of Technology broke ground Thursday, Oct. 15, on a $40 million Innovation Center for Building Sciences at its East Greenwich campus, a project the school says will double its capacity to train students in construction and related fields.
The planned 45,000-square-foot facility is expected to serve about 1,000 students annually, according to the university. Programs will include building construction, electrical technology, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, and other related trades.
Steve Kitchin, the university’s vice president of corporate and education training, said the center will bring trade programs together in shared facilities, including modern labs, specialized training areas and flexible classrooms designed to reflect workplace conditions.
The project will expand the campus’s space for hands-on technical education. The university has not provided a completion date in its announcement.
