North Coast voters to decide whether Javadi keeps House seat as a Democrat

Oregon state Rep. Cyrus Javadi is asking voters in House District 32 to return him to the Legislature under a new party affiliation, after winning his first two terms as a Republican.

Javadi switched to the Democratic Party last year after voting for a transportation package backed by Gov. Tina Kotek that included tax and fee increases, including a 6-cent-per-gallon gas tax increase. The vote drew opposition from Republicans.

His district runs along the North Coast from Astoria to Neskowin. Javadi will face Republican challenger Max Sherman in the Nov. 3 election, less than two weeks after the campaign update published Oct. 24.

The contest will test whether Javadi can retain support in a district where he has twice won election as a Republican, now running with a different party label. The available campaign information did not provide details about the candidates’ positions or polling.
