Gresham man, 20, faces 66 counts in case involving alleged abuse of five teens
A Multnomah County grand jury indicted Gresham resident Ethan Bohanan, 20, on 66 charges Tuesday, Oct. 6, in a case involving allegations of sexual abuse of five girls ages 15 and 16. The charges include 15 counts of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, 15 counts of second-degree encouraging child sexual abuse, nine counts of third-degree rape, six counts of third-degree sodomy, 16 counts of second-degree sexual abuse and five counts of third-degree sexual abuse. The indictment contains allegations; the charges have not been proven in court. Gresham police said the investigation began in May 2026 after they learned of Bohanan’s alleged interactions with children. Detectives say that over several years he presented himself as an emancipated minor between 14 and 16 years old, claimed to attend local middle schools and took part in youth basketball events. Police allege he used the false identity to get closer to young people and had sexual relationships with multiple children. Investigators say many of the young people may not have known his actual age. Police said Bohanan also claimed to be a juvenile when contacted by officers. Investigators have contacted school districts, sports leagues and youth-service organizations. They said they have found no evidence that he was formally enrolled in a Multnomah County school or played in district-run sports, but that he regularly participated in nonprofit leagues and organizations that rent space at local schools. Gresham police believe there may be additional victims, including children outside Multnomah County. Detective Adam Wright described the investigation as spanning several months and said using a false age to gain access to youth sports leagues was “abhorrent.” Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Rachna Hajari, who is prosecuting the case, said coming forward can be frightening for victims and praised those who have participated in the investigation.
