LOS ANGELES — Security personnel stopped a person who entered former Vice President Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff’s Malibu property Friday night, before the individual reached the home, a Harris spokesperson said Saturday. Harris and Emhoff were not at the property during the incident, according to Eduardo Negrón, a spokesperson for Harris. Security and law enforcement responded, Negrón said, adding that the couple was grateful for the quick intervention. The incident was first reported by TMZ. Authorities have not publicly released the person’s identity, described how the individual entered the property or announced any charges. Harris purchased the Malibu beach house for $8.15 million in December. The home is in a private coastal enclave known for celebrity residents, and the purchase has fueled speculation about Harris’ future political plans, including whether she might seek the presidency again in 2028. The break-in also draws attention to the security arrangements surrounding a former vice president. President Joe Biden had extended Harris’ federal protection beyond the customary six-month period for former vice presidents. President Donald Trump ended that protection last summer. California Gov. Gavin Newsom has said the California Highway Patrol would assume responsibility for Harris’ security. The state has not disclosed the cost of that detail.
