Hastie condemns One Nation’s U.S.-style politics over cartoon about Lambie’s health

CANBERRA — Liberal MP Andrew Hastie has accused Pauline Hanson’s One Nation of embracing “MAGA-style politics” after the party released a cartoon mocking independent senator Jacqui Lambie’s medical condition.

The latest episode of One Nation’s “Please Explain” animated series makes a joke about Lambie’s prolapse. Hastie, a former Australian Special Air Service soldier who served in Afghanistan, said Australian women should “take note of One Nation’s political character.”

Lambie has linked her condition to an injury she sustained while serving in the Australian Army. She has spoken about it publicly in an effort to reduce stigma and while campaigning against a Labor government proposal to cap payments for veterans’ health care services.

One Nation’s cartoon series has also repeatedly portrayed Hastie as a traitor. His criticism adds to a public dispute over the party’s use of personal attacks and ridicule in its political messaging.
