DOJ says warrant authorized search of Ilhan Omar’s Washington home

Federal agents searched the Minnesota congresswoman’s D.C. residence Monday as part of an ongoing investigation whose scope has not been publicly explained. Omar called the search an effort to target political opponents; officials familiar with the probe described it as a multiyear investigation involving immigration-fraud allegations.

DOJ says warrant authorized search of Ilhan Omar’s Washington home
Federal agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., home early Monday under a court-authorized warrant approved by the Justice Department, the department said. Authorities have not publicly detailed what the investigation concerns or what agents sought. The Justice Department said Homeland Security Investigations agents carried out the search as part of an “ongoing federal investigation.” Current and former federal officials familiar with the matter said it is a multiyear probe that includes whistleblower complaints. One former official said the investigation involves allegations of immigration fraud. Omar, a Minnesota Democrat seeking reelection next month, condemned the search in a social media post. “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” she wrote. “I will not be silenced.” Her spokesperson, Jackie Rogers, called the search an “outrageous abuse of power” and an unprecedented escalation in the use of federal law enforcement against political opponents. Vice President Vance has previously accused Omar of immigration fraud, an allegation she denies. Federal authorities have not publicly connected that accusation to the investigation or provided details supporting the allegations. The search began before dawn. Sharon Jackson, a 79-year-old neighbor, said agents woke her at about 4:30 a.m. She recalled hearing “boom, boom, boom” and seeing a large truck outside. Agents from Homeland Security Investigations were seen near the residence Monday morning. The search of a sitting member of Congress’s home, days before a midterm election, raises questions about the investigation’s scope and the circumstances behind the warrant. The Justice Department has not released further information about the case.
