Crypto super PAC targets safe House seats as it builds congressional allies

Fairshake’s network plans to spend in 32 House races, but only four are rated competitive by the Cook Political Report. The strategy may build influence with future lawmakers without significantly shifting control of the House.

Crypto super PAC targets safe House seats as it builds congressional allies
A leading cryptocurrency-backed political action committee is preparing to spend millions of dollars in 32 U.S. House races this election cycle, with most of its chosen contests rated safe for the incumbent party rather than competitive, according to the Cook Political Report. Fairshake and its affiliated PACs are backing the incumbents. Only four of the 32 races are not classified as safe, a pattern that could help the crypto industry cultivate lawmakers likely to support its priorities but is unlikely to have much effect on which party controls the House. “It’s a lot of races that, in a year with a big battlefield, are not really part of that big battlefield,” said Andy LaVigne, director of politics and partnerships at the center-left group Third Way. One of the incumbents receiving Fairshake support is Republican Rep. French Hill of Arkansas. Democrats are also directing spending toward his reelection race, even though President Donald Trump carried the central Arkansas district by more than 15 percentage points in 2024. The approach offers the industry a chance to assemble a broad group of allies in Congress. A strong record of winning races where it spends could also make lawmakers wary of opposing crypto interests. But if Democrats regain control of the House, the industry could face a more difficult path for advancing its agenda, and spending heavily in safe districts may do little to affect that outcome.
