Ari Espinal pleads not guilty in case involving alleged $33,245 loss to union PAC
The former New York Assembly member faces a felony grand larceny charge tied to money allegedly taken from a political action committee affiliated with a construction workers’ union. Espinal pleaded not guilty and is due back in court Dec. 10.
Former New York State Assembly member Ari Espinal was arraigned Oct. 7 on a felony grand larceny charge alleging she took $33,245 from an organization, according to court records. She pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to return to court Dec. 10.
The court records do not name the organization. A person familiar with the case said it is the Mason Tenders’ District Council PAC, the political arm of a union representing thousands of construction workers in New York. Espinal has worked for the PAC as its political and policy coordinator.
Espinal served in the state Assembly for eight months in 2018 and remains active in New York politics. Her attorney, Anthony DiFiore, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The charge is an allegation, and the case will proceed in court.
