Three wounded in shooting at Tempe gathering near McClintock Drive
Gunfire erupted at a house party near McClintock Drive and East Pebble Beach Drive around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, sending three people to the hospital. Two were in critical condition, police said; no arrests had been made.
Three people were hospitalized after a shooting at a house party in Tempe early Saturday, Oct. 24, near McClintock Drive and East Pebble Beach Drive.
Tempe police said officers were responding to a report of a loud party when the shooting happened at about 4:30 a.m. Two people suffered critical injuries and a third had minor injuries. Police had made no arrests and had not released information about a suspect or what led to the gunfire.
People who attended the party told local television reporters that an argument broke out between a resident’s friend and someone the group did not know. One witness, identified as Laay, said those involved went outside before shots were fired. Guests took cover, she said, and tried to help a wounded friend.
The attendees said the injured were two men and a woman. They said the woman was expected to recover, while the men were in critical condition; one man was reportedly unconscious in intensive care. Police had not publicly confirmed those details about the victims.
Neighbors described a family-oriented area where college students also live. Manuel Quijada said he woke to sirens and lights in his backyard and worried about the proximity of the shooting to his five young children.
Investigators have not disclosed whether the party’s noise complaint was connected to the dispute or identified anyone suspected of firing the shots.
