Arizona regulators approve November relief for APS households

APS customers are set to receive an approximately $14.70 credit on November bills, after state regulators unanimously approved returning money left in a renewable-energy fund. The utility also will skip that month’s roughly $2.49 environmental surcharge.

Arizona regulators approve November relief for APS households
Arizona Public Service customers are expected to see an approximately $14.70 one-time credit on their November electric bills, following a unanimous vote by the Arizona Corporation Commission on Oct. 8. Customers also will not be charged the monthly Renewable Energy Adjustment Charge for November. The charge appears on residential bills as an “Environmental Benefits Surcharge” of about $2.49, meaning the bill impact will include both the credit and the skipped fee. The commission said the credit will return about $33.6 million in uncommitted funds from APS’ Renewable Energy Adjustment Charge account. The balance grew in part through the utility’s Green Power Partners program, which lets commercial and industrial customers voluntarily buy renewable energy credits from APS. Commissioner Lea Márquez Peterson said the timing could help households facing higher bills after heavy electricity use during the hot summer. Commissioner René Lopez said returning the funds to customers reflects the effects of recent commission decisions. The five-member commission approved the measure unanimously. APS customers should see the changes on their November statements.
