A 39-year-old woman in Franklin County died Saturday after a recent measles diagnosis, making her death the sixth measles-associated fatality reported in Pennsylvania this year, officials said Monday.
The Franklin County Coroner’s Office said the woman had several underlying health conditions. The office said the case meets the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s definition of a measles-associated death, but did not release further details that could identify her. Officials have not said whether she was vaccinated.
Pennsylvania has recorded 1,136 measles cases in 2026, with 157 reported in the seven days before Monday, according to state figures cited in the report. The coroner’s office said it had been many years since Franklin County had a death involving a patient with a recent measles diagnosis.
The measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine remains the best protection against measles, health officials say. Since April, state health centers have administered more than 5,500 MMR doses in communities affected by the outbreak, and pop-up clinics across Pennsylvania have provided more than 8,500 doses.
