Eatontown woman charged after investigation into reported burns in Plumsted

An Eatontown woman has been charged with two counts of falsely incriminating another person after investigators concluded she gave authorities false information about a burn injury reported in Plumsted Township, Ocean County prosecutors said.

Chelsea Villano, 33, was charged Oct. 23 and taken to Ocean County Jail. The charges stem from an Oct. 15 incident in a wooded area near Hawking Road and Success Road.

Police and emergency medical responders were called to the area at about 1:36 p.m. for a report of a woman with burns. Responders found Villano distressed and injured, and she was taken to Temple University Burn Center in Philadelphia for treatment.

Prosecutors said Villano initially told authorities that her boyfriend had tried to burn her and kill her while the couple and another person were in the wooded area. Her boyfriend was arrested the following day and charged with attempted murder and aggravated arson. He was released from Ocean County Jail three days later.

As the investigation continued, prosecutors said they determined Villano had provided false information about both the cause of her injuries and the person responsible. The charges against her are allegations; the available information does not describe the circumstances that caused her burns or provide details about her next court appearance.
